When celebrities are touched by cancer, either through their own diagnosis or the diagnosis of a loved one, many of them choose to use their platform to increase awareness and raise money to fight the disease. From breast cancer to prostate cancer, many celebrities are using their names to educate and inspire the public.
Our last post highlighted the top 10 celebrities who have survived a urological cancer. Today we're saluting the top five celebs who are taking the time and energy to raise awareness and offer hope.

The television star of Three's Company and breast cancer survivor now publically promotes cancer awareness and the importance of regular screenings.
Olivia Newton John

The Grease star was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1992 and made a full recovery. Since then she has produced two albums with proceeds benefiting cancer charities.
Denise Richards

Denise Richards has been tabloid fodder for the past several years because of her marriage and divorce woes with actor Charlie Sheen. In more recent months, and on a positive note, Richards is channeling her celebrity into kidney cancer awareness. As the spokesperson for Kidney Cancer Foundation, Richards is using her personal loss and pain to help others. She's was even willing to publically embarrass herself by singing at a charity baseball game!
Christina Applegate

The former Married with Children star was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2008 and made the decision to undergo a double mastectomy. Applegate now uses her fame to increase breast cancer awareness and stresses the importance of regular screenings.
Lance Armstrong

Lance Armstrong tops this list and our list of top cancer survivors. Diagnosed with testicular cancer in 1996, Armstrong went to work right away by forming the Lance Armstrong Foundation. His motto, LIVESTRONG, inspires cancer patients and their families to live life to the fullest. LIVESTRONG provides support, resources, and a community of like-minded people all coming together to beat cancer.
