Prostate Cancer Survivors Speak Their Minds

A new book featuring celebrity prostate cancer survivors released earlier this month

A new book that combines the personal prostate cancer stories of celbrities and regular men called Prostate Cancer Survivors Speak Their Minds: Advice on Options, Treatments and Aftereffects by Arthur L. Burnett II, MD and Norman S. Morris (Wiley; April 1, 2010; $16.95 US/$19.95 CAN). The book notes that prostate cancer is the second leading cause of death for American men who are often searching for information on treatment options in the face of this life-threatening disease.

Prostate Cancer Survivors Speak Their Minds features celebrity survivors including U.S. Sen. John Kerry (D-MA), golf legend Arnold Palmer, former NFL football player Robin Cole, baseball great Ken Griffey Sr., and the founder of the 700 Club television program Pat Robertson.

In addition to personal stories, the book also helps readers understand difficult medical terminology and treatment options.

A press release for the book states, "Prostate Cancer Survivors Speak Their Minds explores awareness, detection and treatment options and helps patients make an informed decision along with their doctor."

Author Burnett offers hope to readers who are facing decisions about treatments: "As progress in different treatment areas improves and continues to advance, the chances of getting where you want to go – cancer-free and able to live life to the fullest – become greater and less elusive,” says Dr. Burnett.
